In 2015, the Washington, DC City Council allocated funds for an outdoor pool in Ward 3, the city's only ward (or district) currently without one. Hearst Park, an expansive, leafy, underutilized green space centrally-located in Cleveland Park was chosen as the site. A few neighbors have voiced objections to the pool due to potential increased traffic and parking, or to the possible loss of one of the three existing tennis courts. Friends of Hearst Pool was established as a voice in support of a pool at this location, as well as a forum to facilitate neighborhood input in the design process.
